Full job description

Job Title: 100% Remote Commission Based Electrical and Low Voltage Estimator
Location: Remote (Central Standard Time Preffered)
Reports To: CEO
Position Type: Flexible, Choose Your Own Schedule

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electrical and Low Voltage Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical and low voltage systems, including electrical wiring, lighting, security systems, fire alarms, data networking, and other specialized systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of both commercial and residential electrical and low voltage systems, as well as experience using estimating software and collaborating with project teams.

  • Prepare Accurate Estimates: Develop detailed estimates for electrical and low voltage systems, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead costs.
  • Review Plans and Specifications: Analyze blueprints, design documents, and project specifications to create estimates for electrical and low voltage work, ensuring they align with project requirements.
  • Perform Material Take-offs: Conduct material take-offs and quantity surveys from blueprints to determine the material needs for the project.
  • Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to understand specific needs and adjust estimates as necessary.
  • Bid Preparation: Prepare competitive and accurate bids for electrical and low voltage systems, including detailed cost breakdowns and recommendations.
  • Analyze Subcontractor Quotes: Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids for compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and cost competitiveness.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks that could impact project costs or timelines, such as material shortages or design changes, and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Project Cost Management: Track and manage costs through all phases of the project, ensuring that the estimates remain accurate and aligned with the budget.
  • Post-Migration Support: Assist with troubleshooting and change orders during the construction phase, including revising estimates for any unforeseen issues.
  • Compliance and Code Adherence: Ensure estimates meet all applicable local, state, and national electrical codes, as well as any other relevant industry standards.
  • Provide Value Engineering Solutions: Recommend cost-effective solutions that maintain the integrity of the electrical and low voltage systems.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, proposals, change orders, and other relevant project documents.

Key Requirements

  • Education:
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred, but not required. Relevant work experience may be substituted.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical and low voltage estimating.
  • Experience with both commercial and residential electrical systems, low voltage systems (security, fire alarms, data networks, etc.), and their associated components.
  • Previous experience working with estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Esticom, ProEst) and project management tools.
  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and low voltage construction systems, including wiring, lighting, and communication systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with NEC (National Electrical Code), fire alarm standards, low voltage system requirements, and industry safety regulations.
  • Excellent math and analytical skills for accurate cost calculation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project teams, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced knowledge of Excel for cost analysis.
  • Certifications (Optional but desirable):
  • Electrical Estimating Certification (e.g., from the Association of Electrical Contractors or similar organizations).
  • Low Voltage Systems Certification or similar professional credentials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific low voltage systems like fire alarm systems, security cameras, data cabling, and structured wiring.
  • Familiarity with relevant project management software.
  • OSHA safety certifications.
  • Experience in value engineering and cost-saving strategies in electrical systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to visit job sites to assess work conditions, take measurements, and ensure compliance with designs and codes.

Work Environment

  • This position is office-based with occasional site visits to assess project needs and monitor progress.
  • Some travel may be required depending on the location of projects.
